July Ride Re-scheduled! New Date: July 24, 2010

Rain date: Sunday July 25.

This ride will be hosted by Bev Elliott, on picturesque South
Mountain, Annapolis alley, Nova Scotia. As usual, we plan to start the faster group (the 'hares') at 10 & the slower group (the 'turtles') at 10:30. HOWEVER - if the weather is predicted to be hot, then I would like to suggest that we try to be ready to ride early to beat the bugs as much as possible.

We are asking that, if you plan to come, please let Bev or me know so that we have an idea of how much parking space will be needed.

The directions to Bev's place are given at the end of this email.

Ride Details:
The trail will have 2 possible loops, one shorter & not as lovely (~8
miles) and one longer and very pretty (~12 miles). The terrain includes some
fairly steep (but not overly long) hills, both up & down. The trails will
consist of mostly forest/field/dirt roads, with minimal chipseal or pavement.
There are some rocky stretches so it is recommended that your horses are shod or
have boots on. There will be natural water available on the trails - if fact
there will be horse-swimming available, so come prepared with extra (dry) gear!

Lunch:
Plan on a tail-gate lunch: kind of a free-wheeling pot-luck but without the
kitchen facilities!

Important Note from the ride host:
The drive up the mountain to the ride site is fairly steep and older cars/trucks may have a problem with it. If you think that this might be an issue for you, please contact Bev and we may need to re-think the parking site. Plan ahead so that if changes are required everyone will have plenty of notice.

We really hope to see you all there. I know that the coming ride is at a
beautiful location &, weather permitting, I am sure that it will be a really
"fun ride" for all.

Directions:

From Windsor take Exit 9 (Avonport/Gaspereau Valley)
go around the round-about and head back over the 101 Hwy.
(I do believe there are Winery Signs posted...you would follow those into the Valley)
You will come to a stop sign and Merk's Trucking is in front of you.
Turn right and follow the River Road into the valley until you come to a Shell Station on your left.

Just past the garage (parking area blends into the road) turn left onto
Greenfield Road and head up the mountain.
Pass a church, school and further up a cemetery on the left.
Keep coming up the mtn and when you get to the top there is a sharp left hand corner. When you come around this corner start counting the streets on your right and you will be looking for the third road on the right, Newtonville Road.

There is a church on the corner (Forest Hill Baptist Church). Turn and my place
is the second on the right.

>From New Minas take Exit 11.
Turn right at the bottom of the ramp and head up to the Ridge
At the stop sign turn left.
Follow the Winery Signs to the valley.
The Winery will be on the right, go past this and over the bridge.
Just past the bridge is Greenfield Road, turn right onto this and head up the
mtn.
Pass a church, school and further up a cemetery on the left.
Keep coming up the mtn and when you get to the top there is a sharp left hand
